skewers sitting
snags on the line
stubby bottles cold
we eat talking some
of our worlds & lives
& later as the sun slides
i say a little one?
bring out the 103
he brought me back from spain
pour into little glasses
aware of her eyes
his girl watching close
the levels rise & then another
until the evening winds come
finding her a blanket
as we put the world to rights
should we go? she asks
her eyes all aflame
aye he says nothin’ left to say
we shake hands say adios
kiss her both cheeks
tho’ everybody here knows
there is no love to keep
