a modern woman

she had a mattress

there on the floor

in that

as the husband fled

off to his other lover

he’d taken

the marital bed

i lay there thinking

all about this

as she prepared

to come join me

i was hoping for delights

a union of bodies

continuing the theme

of the evening

sharing our minds

moving out of fear

& into an easy peace

which came for a time

until we found

all of that was to be

nothing but a dream
