these skeins

woven before you or i

were even born

we were drinking

mead & country wines

by the beaker full

needing to piss

went out to find stars & solace

under a gibbous moon

splashing the grass

saw glow worms in the dark night

gloom thinking all of us will

one day return to the worms

returned instead to the drinkers

asked for more & said

there’s a glow worm on the bushes

glow worm! i must see he cried

went outside for some time

came back one on his hand

this is the first one i’ve ever seen

there & then it died

the heat of his hand bringing it

into the light the heat

destroyed the poor beast
