arriving at dawn

sober

if with booze in saddlebags

sleepy breakfast

their wide eyed kids

checking out

this new scene

we power nap after coffee

to ask where’s the day?

though we’re overdue

they have no plans

so they drive us

into their new city

us gazing out

of kid fingered windows

wondering maybe

if we should not

have come

we go eat

& laugh some

get up to speed

waiting for the now

for us to click

become the same old

same old friends again

recognising

those days have gone

these are people

with responsibilities

the booze stays in our saddlebags
