heathens

a beautiful place

countryside bucolic

living there a decade or two

surrounded by nothing

but farm animals

the wild ones too

& the heathens

who professed beliefs

in nothing but

the fads of the day

I saw felt more

their disbelief in each other

having no moral compass

abiding ethics scruples

when dealing with each other

excepting that of

me me me first

professing to love

the seasons the land

yet treating these

it seemed as best

to be ignored

worked around

they lived & were

in the backlands

their own terrain of

ignorance in

body & soul

& mind
