letters never meaning to send

writing these has not been easy

writing letters never meaning to send has long been a mainstay of psychotherapy/counselling, the idea being to say things, write down what you would like to say, always wanted to say but never did.

in the hope of clearing your head, your thinking & feelings.

hoping for catharsis in therapy is forever a false grail, instead we do the hard work & hope results will follow.

here I’ve released thoughts & feelings I’ve not ever expressed or not ever fully expressed, thankfully time has been a healer.

to write intimate family details is not easy of a good family, to write them about a family that thrives on secrets & bad behaviour that is suppressed in public & never to be spoken of, is a hard row to hoe.

I’ve felt ashamed, embarrassed & fearful writing these, the violence I experienced at the hands of the people here still haunts, thankfully most of them are no longer here to continue their poor habits.

the refrain of ‘we don’t talk in public’ still echoes faintly in the back of my head, thankfully that voice grows fainter each time I tell of the horrors, the selfishness & brutality of people who did know better but failed in their responsibilities.

I hope too that these mean something to you, whether you feel empathy can relate to your own experiences or can use the exercise of ‘letters never meaning to send’

with yourself, your clients or with a friend suffering with family dysfunction
